Cormorant on Ellis

While I was developing the color recipe for Cormorant, I happened to be listening to the audiobook The Guest List by Lucy Foley. I won't go into much detail other than the book opens with an alluring scene off the coast of Cormorant Island named for the large ominous birds that inhabit it. This color is the result of how I envisioned those birds would look looming off the coast of the rocky island in the setting sun of a foggy day. Cormorant is a rich mahogany brown colorway that shifts between a deep plum purple and rich burgundy brown. This unique colorway has so much depth and warmth that it pairs remarkably well with just about any colorway in both fade and contrast colorwork project. Hand dyed on Ellis, a heavy laceweight yarn spun from New York State produced Wool.

THE YARN

Ellis

Domestically produced from sheep to skein in New York State

Light Fingering / Lace Weight

80% Rambouillet Wool 20% Finn Wool

600 Yards / 95 gram

Ellis is versatile lace weight yarn, spun with a balanced blend of domestically produced Rambouillet and Finn wool that together create a truly luxurious yarn with just a touch of rustic. This 2 ply yarn is slightly heavier than a typical lace weight yarn and works well on a variety of needle sizes and in a wide array of projects to create a remarkable fabric that is ultra-soft with a lofty bounce. From sheep to skein, this yarn is 100% made in New York State. The wool was produced by small farms in New York state, the fiber was spun at Battenkill Fiber Mill in Greenwich, NY and the yarn was hand dyed by me in Fairport, NY.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Hand wash gently in cool water using a wool safe detergent such as Eucalan. Lay flat to dry. It is normal for some color to bleed from hand dyed yarns when washed for the first time; cold water will help to prevent bleeding.

FROM THE STUDIO

Each skein will vary in saturation and speckling, even if they are from the same dye batch. This is what makes hand dyed yarn so unique and special. If creating a project requiring multiple skeins of the same color, always rotate your skeins every few rows for a seamless blend of color. While we take great care to accurately photograph our products, actual colors may vary from monitor to monitor.
